Intertwined

Senior Show Exhibition

Project.

The Senior Show Exhibition is for all design senior students. This show challenges us to produce a final work that exemplifies our best and most creative, artistic, and conceptual thinking ability to date. Within the senior class, we are split into 4 groups who each come up with a unique theme.

Solution.

My group theme is based around the life cycle of a phoenix: Survival & Work, Healing Biases & Past Experiences, Family and Community, Self-Actualization & Optimization and Transcendence & Rebirth. Each of the members of our group chose one of these stages in the cycle to focus their work around. I chose to complete my senior show surrounding Family & Community.

Each of us have evolving relationships which move in and out throughout our lives. Like all things, relationships & communities require us to reanalyze this aspect of our life over and over again. They intertwine throughout our lives to build who we are and who we will become. This concept of self is woven-together and built by each of our families and communities. We should constantly evaluate and maintain the relationships we hold to ensure that the people in our lives are receiving the love that they need and that, at the same time, we are as well.

Intertwined is an exhibition that explores the realizations that I have made through the many hardships and challenges I faced during the pandemic. I have come to realize the true value in my relationships and was able to begin building stronger connections with the people who have given me my most cherished qualities.

Through the tedious process of interlacing images of the people who impact me most, I slowly unveil how they have come together to leave an impact on my life. As I started to connect the sections of family and community together and embed meaningful phrases, I discovered the influence of these people on my unique personality. This process can be chaotic and overwhelming at times, but it is through the action of weaving that I have grown to understand how meaningful my connections are and how important they have been in my life.

Relationships must be a priority; We must make time for each of the relationships in our lives and cherish our time together. The world is unpredictable, and moments with our loved ones are not guaranteed.

I hope each viewer is pushed to reflect on the people they surround themselves with and the value that those relationships hold.
